MMFT was designed to be taught in an organizational setting, to existing groups and teams. The training makes clear how mind fitness relates to an organization’s mission, with examples applied to the operational environment. It explores how mindfulness is a foundational skill for effective interpersonal communication, which strengthens team cohesion and performance. In addition, the shared experience of undertaking MMFT as a group builds informal relationships and solidarity.
MMFT builds self-knowledge, which in turn builds team resilience and effectiveness. In our pilot study, leaders reported an improved ability to recognize emotions in themselves and others, which helped them to be more open to feedback from subordinates. Team members reported more awareness of individual strengths and weaknesses, which led to more effective task delegation and more cooperative behavior within the team. Overall, their enhanced ability to see situations from others’ perspectives improved team communication and cohesion.
